"Jill Paydon, the general manager at KZFR 90.1 FM, in Chico, has been involved with radio since the late 1970s. She started her radio career with KHSU, the Humboldt State radio station, as a student DJ and she knows the importance of including students' perspectives on the radio.
KZFR 90.1 FM is a non-commercial radio station, so the music and programs are eclectic. 'Working in community radio there's a wide age range where you get to work with so many people,' Paydon said. 'Here we try to provide a variety of music and information and try to attract people of all demographics.'
David Ballerini a.k.a. DJ Fet Fet is a junior business major and also host of a hardcore rock show on KCSC, Chico State's student-run Internet radio station.
'Anyone can DJ,' Ballerini said. 'It's easy to overcome a phobia of public speaking, because all that's in front of you when you're on the air is a sound board and a microphone,' he said after one of his on-air performances in the KCSC broadcast booth. "
