The Flat Hat

"For film kids, we need to have some sort of major production to show to even get our foot in the door,' Williams said. 'This will be a venue for writers, directors, producers and actors to show off their talent.'

Inspired by dramatic series on other college television stations, as well as HBO's 'Band of Brothers,' Williams said he wanted to develop a series set in modern times that showcases a number of highly developed characters without placing too much emphasis on any one character."

Diamondback Online - STAFF EDITORIAL: Group assignment

"There's no doubt the students who run WMUC care about it deeply. Why else would they sit alone in a tiny booth in the middle of the night hosting shows no one listens to? They've got the passion; now they need the business savvy. Far too few students tune into WMUC to make it a viable future station. Just like other radio stations, the advent of digital forms of music and file sharing have hurt it. But there's something just plain romantic about a successful college radio station, and this university has enough character to sustain one. Kraus proposal for WMUC includes pumping more dollars into it, which is necessary to make it run more effectively and to advertise enough to grab more listeners. WMUC may not be the new WHFS 99.1 FM, but it does have an audience - the student body - that can propel it into greatness, which will in turn bring in advertising dollars and make the station self-sustaining. It just needs a little help from the SGA."

Paul Scott: The Current switches on a brave, inspiring alternative

"The idea that Public Radio would venture beyond 'All Things Considered' and the lesser-known works of Dvorak to offer an alternative to popular music is so sensible, both as a business and cultural decision, it is remarkable it took so long. It is also a concession to the changing climate for original music in this country"

RWonline - The Big Picture

"Before considering the options for adding surround sound to digital radio, it's a good idea to gather some background on the technology. Where it's going is easier to predict if you know where it's been.
This is particularly useful given that radio has tried to move beyond stereo before, with little success. Will results of the current movement prove any different?"

President Bush: Fire the F.C.C. - And Here's Why

"With the announced resignation of F.C.C. Chairman, Michael Powell, I began to wonder about the qualifications of the other Commissioners for their service on the Federal Communications Commission.
So, I went over to the F.C.C.'s website and read each Commissioner's biography. Based on what's published (and folks: if your bios are not complete or up to date, I suggest you do so), it is now my humble opinion that none of these appointed people are qualified to serve. "

College DJs do RUM undiluted

"No one could possibly have this much fun doing radio.
Is it legal?
The quick-joking, rapid-rhyming, music-melding, fast-talking trio of Jay, Jay and Cool project a collective enthusiasm that snaps, crackles and pops over the airwaves like a manic wake-up call to stodgy radio shows that are the broadcast equivalent of wet bread.

Their free-form style could only exist on one outlet: college radio. "

Patrick Lafayette: Blindness not an obstacle on the road to stardom (volume two) - JAMAICAOBSERVER.COM: "The course brought back memories of the times he 'terrorised' Fae Ellington on JBC's Bamboo Lounge and Marie Garth on RJR, winning up all their give-aways until they banned him. In time, he got a stint on college radio WMCR.
He remembers his influential professor, Raphael Marks advising him never to say he was blind on radio but to allow people to find out for themselves. The lesson helped when he got to Radio Jamaica some years later, he says"

Radio rival comes to aid of KBEM

"'I know our help seems ironic,' said Clear Channel's MacLeash. 'We've gotten this big evil empire reputation, but our stations are all locally controlled. We decide what we're going to do. And [helping KBEM] is what we want to do.'"

EDITOR: Well at least they get some press out of this and it might help them in the localism NOI if/when it comes to a NPRM.
