Martin Ascends To FCC Chairman

"Insiders say that the understated Martin may be a less polarizing figure than Powell, although his deregulation agenda may be even more aggressive than that of the departing chairman. Some observers say that conservative Martin may also be more responsive to the religious right on indecency issues."

Jack Comes To Indianapolis

"Indianapolis knows Jack- or it's about to. Oldies WGLD (Gold 104.5) has flipped to the increasingly popular Jack format-that's-not-a-format programming philsophy. "

EDITOR: This format is growing. Why is it becoming popular with commercial stations, if most college stations don't make it work for a fair sized audience?

TVBR's - Stevens holds forth on indecency

"The powerful Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee says he has plans to get to work on the Broadcast Enforcement Act very soon, and that he will make an attempt to bring MVPDs (Multichannel Video Programming Distributors) into the indecency enforcement mix. The House has already passed a bill which would raise the maximum single-offense fine from 32.5K to 500K. Any attempt to bring in MVPDs, which generally refer to cable and DBS operators, would have to be resolved in conference committee."

Ventura County Star: Opinion

"We had a radio station, a television station, a newspaper, a magazine, a yearbook, two theaters, and a complete photographic and movie processing lab. We had kitchens for student cooks, sewing rooms, art studios, drafting programs, biology, chemistry and physics labs, and 12 gymnasiums. There were jazz bands, marching bands, symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras, madrigal choruses, jazz choruses and dance troupes. Organized sports included baseball, football, soccer, swimming, diving, wrestling, water polo, track and field, volleyball, and fencing. We even got fed. "

USATODAY.com - End 'Malt Madness'

"To my eyes, the NCAA basketball tournament is by far the best sports TV event of the year. Who can't love a walk-on guard from Rinkydink Tech sinking a buzzer-beater to upset top-seeded Big Bucks U.? Fill out your brackets in the $5 office pool and start nail-biting.
But if 2005 is typical of past years, you'll see enough beer commercials during the three weeks of NCAA action to get a hangover by osmosis. In one survey, the 2003 tournament carried 395 beer TV commercials. Breweries spent more than $21 million hustling their six-packs during the NCAA showdown. While the revenue goes to the TV network, the NCAA has the clout to demand alcohol-free telecasts. "
