A HEADBANGER'S BALL FROM JERSEY TO IRAQ

"Over the last few months, Seton Hall University's student radio station has sent nearly 4,000 new CDs to troops in Iraq. Inspired by touching e-mails from homesick and bored soldiers, students at WSOU spent months soliciting hard rock and heavy metal music from record labels and shipping them overseas. "

What about Bright Eyes, The Raveonettes or The Postal Service?

Why is WRCM Unplugged? - The Quadrangle - Features

"Aside from a brief few days of broadcasts at the beginning of the semester Manhattan's perpetually on-the-rise radio station WRCM, has been silent from its limited airwaves. The absence is the result of a failed attempt to overhaul the tight surroundings that the staff has found itself in. The proposed renovations center on the knocking down of a wall that currently separates the two offices and would result in one conjoined studio."

WTBU fires DJ for profanity - The Daily Free Press - News: "After The Steve Vitolo Show was taken off of WTBU's program line-up on Feb. 28 for repeated policy violations, the show's host and namesake claimed the program was unjustly removed from the Boston University radio network.

The show, created in 2002, was removed from its Sunday evening timeslot because of four 'strikes' - including failing to censor two expletives in a single show."

UCSD Guardian Online: Cuts to student media stipends

"Watts would also need a majority of the 24-member A.S. Senate to approve the cuts, including eliminating almost $55,000 in stipends paid to student government members and workers at the student-funded television and radio stations. The SunGod Party slate has only five senatorial candidates, meaning that even a sweep by the slate would require Watts to form a broad coalition to get his budget passed. "

Streaming students on the Radio, 24/7 - Chicago Flame - News

"Internet broadcasting, which may be relatively unheard of to some people, is advantageous in many ways. The cost to license music from different artists is usually discounted for college radio stations, but the cost is further discounted for stations broadcasting over the internet. The only other costs required is in the maintenance of the stations internet servers, which is relatively cheap."

EDITOR: Whether it's the reporter or the student, the quote is INNACURATE! There are additional costs to streaming and the failure to realize these costs and to pay them put both the Internet station and the on-air station in jeopardy! Anyone with questions should call 877-ASK-CBI1 TODAY!
