PBS stations fend off religious broadcasters

"In 2000, only 25 noncommercial radio licenses changed hands, Hand says. Last year, 76 noncommercial licenses sold for an average of $1.1 million - more than double the $563,000 average station price the previous year, he says.
Already 50 noncommercial license transfers have been filed this year with the Federal Communications Commission, says Greg Guy, the Maryland broker for WVXU-FM."

EDITOR: Note that this story talks about NPR stations, but it also references college stations by call letters, but does not call them student stations. Stories like these and the CBI article concerning the attempts to take over/ time share with student stations should serve as a reminder to all student stations to remain visible and important to their licensees and to follow the rules!

CBI has created a survey for all non profit, non-CPB, stations that webcast (stream) audio on the Internet in response to a Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) by the U.S. Copyright Office.

The Copyright Office has proposed a number of new regulations that could affect these stations ability to webcast! If your station is now webcasting or hopes to in the future, we need your input!

Please visit http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=87321084654 to take this SHORT survey!

CBI needs your input ASAP in order to include it in written comments it will present to the Copyright Office on May 25, 2005.

If you have any questions or comments concerning the survey, please send them to chair@Collegebroadcasters.org .

Will Robedee
Chair, CBI
PS. Please feel free to pass this e-mail to other college/non-CPB funded stations. Responses from non-school affiliated commercial stations will not be of use or tallied in our reports.

Stevenson seniors turn on radio to tune up for college-level exam

LINCOLNSHIRE -- Some Stevenson High School students gathered by radios last week for an on-air cram session.

On the eve of the Advanced Placement American government exam, civics teachers Andrew Conneen and Dan Larsen hosted a three-hour show on WAES-FM 88.1 to help about 300 seniors prepare for a chance to earn college credit.

'Instead of requesting music by Ludacris or the Black Eyed Peas, they request information on the filibuster and votes of cloture,' said Conneen, in his seventh year at the Lincolnshire school."
