QUARTERLY ISSUES/PROGRAMS LIST DUE If you are an FCC licensed station, your third quarter (for the quarter July-September) Issues/Programs list must be in your Public File by October 10, 2003. For details, see http://www.collegebroadcasters.org/docs/73-3527.pdf .

CONVENTION DEADLINES The BIG Event is less than a month away! The "FAMOUS" CBI Fall Convention comes to Dallas, November 6-9, 2003. Have you registered yet? There's still time to take advantage of Early Bird discount and save some money. But hurry! The Early Bird deadline is October 14th. You can register on-line courtesy of our partners at Associated Collegiate Press. Just follow this link: http://www.studentpress.org/acpdallas/regform03.html for the form.

Also be sure to make reservations at the convention hotel, the Dallas Hyatt Regency. The hotel is located at 300 Reunion. Convention hotel rooms start at $155. Be sure to ask for the National College Media Convention rate. The deadline for the hotel discount rates is October 14th. After this date rooms may still be available, but phone the hotel before faxing or mailing a reservation.

A reservation form is available on page 15 of the convention brochure. Go to http://www.studentpress.org/acpdallas/acpdallas.pdf to download the brochure. You may fax the form to the hotel at 214-742-8126. You may also call the hotel directly at 214-651-1234. If you phone the hotel, always use the complete name of the convention, the 82nd Annual ACP/CMA National College Media Convention.


WEBCAST OPT-IN DEADLINE Are you Webcasting? Then be sure to complete the opt-in Webcasting form and submit payment before October 15, 2003. The form (available at http://www.collegebroadcasters.org/) says a Webcaster agrees to pay royalties and comply with the terms of the Small Webcaster Settlement Act of 2002 (SWSA). Educational stations that have webcast in the past MUST opt-in before October 15, 2003. If they do not, they may be forced to pay the rates established via the CARP! See the CBI Web site (http://www.collegebroadcasters.org/) for more details.

ELECTION Don't forget to return your ballot for the CBI Board of Directors elections. Ballots must be postmarked by October 17th in order to be counted in the election. Contact CBI Elections Chair Greg Newton (newtong@ohio.edu) with questions. Election results will be announced during the fall conference.

AWARDS Congratulations to all of our finalists in the 2003 CBI National Student Production Awards contest! (list available at http://www.collegebroadcasters.org/awards.shtml). Be sure to take advantage of the public relations opportunity and brag about how good your station is to be one of the best in the country in a specific category. Talk about it on the air, send out press releases to the local media including your school newspaper--all will enhance your station image.

CBI STUDENT CYBERCAST The CBI Student Cybercast returns to the CMA/ACP/CBI National College Media Convention November 6-9 in Dallas. Student broadcasters from across the U.S. will present their radio shows live from the convention tradeshow floor beginning Thursday morning. ANOTHER CONTEST The deadline to enter the 2004 Golden Reel Programming Awards is Friday November 7. You will find entry form and rules at http://www.nfcb.org/awards/goldenreelawards.jsp.

POLITICAL REPORTING SEMESTER The Washington, D. C. Politics & Journalism Semester is a 4-month semester for college journalists whose career goal is political reporting. Information and application forms for the Winter/Spring 2004 semester can be obtained at http://www.wcpj.org. Applications are due Friday, October 31, 2003.
